David Bertke

August 12, 1962 — October 28, 2016

David Arnold Bertke passed away 10/28/2016 at Kansas City Hospice House after a brief battle with pancreatic cancer.  David was born 8/12/1962 in Eket, Nigeria where his parents, Richard and Betty Bertke were missionaries.  Upon returning to the United States, David and his parents settled in Perryville, Mo.  After high school graduation David spent some time in Huntsville, Alabama where he repaired large fishing boat engines.  Not only did David excel in mechanical skills, he also loved electronics.  In 1986, David was accepted into the Electronics Institute in Kansas City where he graduated first in his class.
In 1990 David met his wife Beth.  They enjoyed boating, camping, and float trips together.  When David wasn’t on the lake he was refurbishing engines and cars.  He loved helping people with any auto repair he could.  He also was pit crew chief for 2 different dirt track racers.
David is survived by his wife of 25 years, Beth; daughter, Danielle and fiancé Tyler Johnson of Greenwood, Mo.; parents, Richard and Betty Bertke of Perryville, Mo.; sister, Diane Elbert of Topeka, Ks.; as well as uncles, aunts, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A graveside service will be held Tuesday, 11/1/2016 at Longview Cemetery on Raytown Road.  A Celebration of Life service will be held Saturday, 11/12/2016 at the Fellowship of Greenwood, 150 Highway in Greenwood, Mo.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions to the Kansas City Hospice House, Fellowship of Greenwood Church, or the American Cancer Society.  Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.longviewfh.com.
