LoResie Chambers

October 24, 1930 — May 28, 2016

On October 24, 1930, Vernishtine Hankton Abson (deceased) presented James B. Abson (deceased) with the first of five children. They named her LoResie. LoResie was a very outgoing child and excelled in school. Resie was born in Oakland, LA and moved with her family to Crossett in 1938.
As a teenager, Resie married Clemmie Wimberly. To this union were born two children: Lee Ella (Tut) Wimberly Evans and Clemmie T. (Tina) Wimberly May. A few years after this marriage dissolved, Resie married Ernest Rogers and gave birth to five children: Harry Louis Rogers, James Hilton Rogers (deceased), John Henry Rogers (deceased), Ernest Marie Rogers and Vernon Eric Rogers. After divorcing Ernest, Resie would later marry Floyd Chambers. This union produced one child, Verna Louise (Punkin) Chambers Gordon.
Being the daughter of a Baptist preacher, Resie united with the New Bethel Baptist Church in Crossett, Arkansas at an early age. After she moved to Kansas City, she eventually became an active member of Friendship Baptist Church of Kansas City, Missouri. Serving faithfully until she had to devote her time to caring for her ailing mother. Her favorite song was Amazing Grace. Resie was a chef by trade. She worked hard to ensure she provided for her children. Her hobbies were working cross word puzzles, fishing, and bowling. During the later years of her life, she would occasionally attend Harvest Church International with her daughter, Tina.
Resie leaves to cherish her memory: six of her eight children; two brothers: James R. (JoAnn) Abson and Theodor (Madgie) Abson; one sister, Mary J. (Andre) Young; sixteen grandchildren (thirteen living); forty-one great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and other relatives. One special friend adopted her as her mother: Trish Reed.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Lo E. (Alice) Abson. Resie loved her children and family members. She was big on getting to know her children’s friends and associates. She worked at staying in touch with family members and their spouses. Full of southern hospitality and good southern cooking, her home was always open to friends and family.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, June 10, 2016 at 10:30 am at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149, with the visitation being one hour prior to the service. Interment will following in Longview Cemetery.
