Terri Malloy

February 3, 1962 — June 3, 2017

Terri Lynn Malloy, 55, passed away on Saturday, June 3, 2017, surrounded by her family at home in Lee’s Summit, Mo.  She was born in Culver City, California, to Ken and Judy Davis Stier on February 3, 1962.   Terri was a selfless and giving person who loved the Lord, her family and friends, her dogs, and the Kansas City Royals.

Terri grew up in El Segundo, California with brothers Jeff and Jerry, and sister Tamie.  She loved her brothers and liked to share stories about their childhood together.  Terri and Tamie were inseparable and their unique laughter was known to everyone. Terri loved to spend time at the beaches of Southern California and was more at home being barefoot or in flip-flops than anything else.  In her teens and early twenties she was a care-free spirit always running from place-to-place with friends.  She’d dash into the house to change clothes and would be off again.

At age 22, Terri was led to a life with Christ influenced by her sister Tamie.  She dove head-long into a relationship with the Lord.  She never lost her free spirit and still ran from place to place as before, but would spend her time ministering to the homeless, worshiping, and sharing the Bible.

In 1988, Terri moved to the Kansas City area with the Grace Fellowship Church to spread God’s Word in the Midwest.  When she left, her Dad told her not to meet some “cowboy” out there in the heartland because he wanted her to come back to California.  But God had His own plans and within months Terri met Doug Malloy at their workplace - Employers Reinsurance Corp in Overland Park, KS.  They were married on May 19th, 1990 and established homes first in Parkville and later Lee’s Summit Missouri.  They were married for 27 years.

Terri and Doug had three children - Ethan in 1991, Cortney in 1993, and Brendan in 1995.  Her kids meant the world to Terri and she loved to brag about how wonderful they were.  They were truly the greatest joy in Terri’s life.

All her life, Terri had a soft heart for homeless pets.  Many are the times that she brought home a stray dog looking for a home.  Her latest addition – a Chihuahua/Corgi mix named Romeo was adopted from the Wayside Waifs animal shelter in 2015.  When Doug asked her what she would like for her birthday that year, she replied “a Romeo”.   At first Doug thought he had not been romantic enough with her, but later found out that Terri had been looking at Romeo’s picture on the internet and was already in love.  Romeo became Terri’s baby over the last years and brought great joy to her life during a trying time.

Terri was a recess aide at Westview Elementary school for many years. The students and staff at Westview enriched Terri’s life in so many ways.  She loved the kids and they loved her back.  There were special “Pink” days, “Team Terri” t-shirts, and fund raisers held for charities in Terri’s name while she battled with breast cancer.  It’s impossible to thank the Westview students and staff enough for their love and support over the years.  Westview is truly an amazing group of people.   Words seem insufficient.

Terri had a child-like spirit which was evident to anyone who met her. She touched many lives during her time with us and her contagious love will live on in our remembrance of her.  As her body weakened, her spirit became more and more excited to go home.
The family would like to thank all their friends who have been unbelievable in their support.  Thank you to the staff at Westview Elementary, the nurses and doctors at Lee’s Summit Medical Center, and the team at the University of Kansas Cancer Center.  You are all amazing people and will always be in our hearts - much love to all of you.

Terri was preceded in death by her sister, Tamie Stier Hall.

She is survived by her spouse, Doug; her sons Ethan and Brendan;  and her daughter, Cortney all of Lee’s Summit, MO.; father Ken Stier of Las Vegas, NV;  mother Judy Stier of Lee’s Summit, MO; brothers Jeff Stier of Paradise, CA and Jerry Stier of Thousand Oaks, CA; and many extended family members.

In memory of Terri, donations will be given to Wayside Waifs and Westview Elementary School.
In keeping with Terri’s wishes, there will be Food & Fellowship Sat. June 10, 2017, from 1-3 PM;  followed by a Celebration of Life Service 3 PM all at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO.
