Mrs. Alberta Madden

Alberta E. Madden, 89, passed away on October 19, 2009. She was born to the union of John Wesley Cody and Mamie Anders in Redbird, Oklahoma on March 30, 1920. Alberta was preceded in death by both parents, three sisters, Myrtle Wallace, Roberta Lane, Nadine Ray, two brothers Archie Hill and Austin Hill, one son Kenneth Switzer, one grandson William C. Switzer, and husband K.C. Switzer. Alberta received her early education in Wagoner, Oklahoma. She later moved to Kansas City in 1935 and completed her high school education in 1939 from Lincoln High School, Kansas City, MO.

Alberta met and married K.C. Switzer in 1940. To this union two children were born, daughter Doris and son Kenneth. Baptized at an early age, Alberta joined the Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Reverend Stewart. She was a devoted church member serving on the Mother Board and teaching Sunday school classes. Alberta later married National Evangelist John W. Madden, Pastor of Bibleway Mission Church, Emporia, Kansas. She devoted her life ministering to the needs of people. Alberta spent several years living in San Diego, CA devoted to taking care of her great-grandchild, Eric. She was known for her caring and loving spirit and was affectionately called “Gigi” by her grandchildren.

Alberta leaves to cherish her memory: a loving and devoted daughter Doris Howell Youngblood (Walter) Kansas City, MO; daughter-in-law Lois Switzer, Kansas City, MO; two sisters Dorothy Moore (Ernest) of Anchorage, Alaska and Delores Cody, Tacoma WA; six grandchildren: Michael Howell, Kansas City, MO; Stephanie Chick (Don) San Diego, CA; Bill Buckner (Nicole) Overland Park, KS; Shellie Diehl (Troy) Lee's Summit, MO; Kenneth Switzer (Kim) Republic, MO; Christopher Switzer, Kansas City, MO; 12 great-grandchildren; a special adopted grandson Michael Brown and a host of other relatives and friends.

Visitation and funeral services will be held on October 24, 2009. Visitation will be held from 10-11am with services starting at 11am at Longview Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12700 S.
