Austen David Merrick, 86, of Harrisonville, Missouri passed away on July 9, 2021. Austen was born on November 25, 1934, to Elliott and Kate Merrick in Greensboro, VT. Austen's first and only love was his wife Rosemary, who he called Rose. They met on a train and were married for 66 beautiful years. He served in the United States Navy and had a long and successful career in the agriculture business. Austen was an avid reader, loved nature and all animals. He enjoyed swimming and sailing. Austen was a self-taught musician and played the harmonica, mandolin, and guitar. Austen's legacy is how he treated, provided, and loved his Rose and their children and grandchildren. Austen had a lasting impression on anyone who was blessed enough to know him. He will be treasured and greatly missed.
Austen was preceded in death by his Parents, Elliott Merrick, and Kate Austen, as well as his brother Kim Merrick. He is survived by his loving wife Rosemary, children Brenda Harrington (Brian), Diane Schiever (Jef), and Dawn Belshe (Robert). Grandchildren Austen and Kate Belshe, Sister Susan Hoover, and his Nephew Martin Merrick.
Services for Austen Merrick will be Friday July 16, 2021, a Graveside service Military honors starting at 2pm at Longview Cemetery at 12700 Se Raytown Road, Kansas City, Mo 64149. The services are immediate family only.
In Lieu of flowers the family is asking for memorial donations be made with a purchase of a tree for the national forests or to the National Audubon Society.
