Barbara Brown

Barbara J. Brown (Crawford), of Kansas City, Missouri, passed away at Research Medical Center on Tuesday, September 26, 2017.

Barbara was born on July 28, 1929, in Topeka, Kansas to Merle and Lydia Crawford.

She is predeceased by her husband of 62 years, Roland W. Brown; and by daughters: Nancy L. Brown and Cynthia S. Brown.  She is survived by children: Valerie Davis, Kansas City; Deborah Farnam, Rogers, Arkansas; Kevin W. Brown, Independence, Mo; Mary Brown Bonacci, Westfield, Massachusetts; by six grandchildren; and brother, Charles Crawford of Grantville, Kansas.

Barbara's legacy lives on through lifetime dedication of ministering to others through music.

She was a lifelong church musician, collaborative pianist, and keyboard music instructor to children.  She earned her degree in Music Education from Pittsburg State University in 1981 after initiating studies in 1973 at Westminster Choir College.  She was a member of the American Guild of Organists and the Kansas Music Educators Association.

She fostered a love and appreciation of music in all of her children, and her grandchildren as well.  Her tastes were varied from sacred and choral music to classical and jazz.  She opened her own piano studio in Parsons, Kansas, the Piano Patch, and taught many aspiring musicians from child to older adult.  She was involved in many theater and school productions as a talented and sought after accompanist, as well as choral and orchestra events.  She was a church Organist and choir director at Trinity Lutheran Church in Parsons.

Funeral services will be held at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 s. Raytown Rd., Kansas City, MO 64149 on Saturday September 30 at 2:00 pm with visitation one hour prior to the service.  Interment will follow at Longview Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to the Carnegie Music Foundation to assist in Music Education.
