Becky Lynn Davis

Becky Lynn Davis, born June 21, 1956, passed away on May 25, 2026.

Growing up in the suburbs of St. Louis, Becky was the daughter of Richard Ott, an educator, and Mary Ann, an exceptional mother and homemaker. She attended Northwest High School before moving with her family to the Kansas City area. She met her husband, Michael Davis, while they both worked at Stix, Baer & Fuller at Ward Parkway. The two married on February 26, 1977, beginning a partnership that would span nearly five decades.

Becky became a full-time teacher in the Grandview School District in 1977, where she taught junior high English until her retirement in 2007. An educator to her core, she was the original grammar queen: sharp, quick-witted, and often the smartest person in the room. Though quiet at first, those who truly knew Becky knew her humor could arrive with perfect timing and just enough bite to leave everyone laughing.

She was a tough but beloved teacher, the kind students remembered long after leaving her classroom. If you could make Mrs. Davis laugh, you knew you had won her over.

Outside the classroom, Becky had a gift for finding beauty and joy in life’s little things. She was a professional shopper in every sense of the word, somehow always uncovering the best bargains on the nicest things, and her wardrobe reflected it effortlessly. She loved reading current fiction, traveling, and creating a home where the holidays felt a little more magical, thanks in part to the extensive nutcracker collection she and Michael lovingly built together over the years.

Becky was also the strongest person many who knew her had ever met. Though life dealt her more than her share of health challenges, she faced them with resilience, humor, and determination, refusing to let them define the joy she found in living fully.

Above all else, Becky valued family. Her small but mighty circle was the center of her world, and she was endlessly proud of her children, Jeff and Mary. Whether through steady support, sharp advice, or humor delivered with impeccable timing, she made sure her family always knew they were loved.

After retiring at the young age of 50, she embraced her favorite role yet: Grandma. Her grandson, Michael, was the light of her life and the person who could always make her smile brightest.

To those who loved her, Becky will be remembered in countless ways: through perfectly timed sarcasm, the most thoughtful gifts, shelves of read books, twinkling Christmas nutcrackers, and the unmistakable scent of Aromatics Elixir lingering gently in a room long after she’d left it.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Ott and Mary Ann Pereira; her stepfather, Fred Pereira; and her in-laws, Rodney and Ina Davis.

She leaves behind her husband of nearly 50 years, Michael Davis; son Jeffrey Davis; daughter Mary King (Joseph); grandson Michael Wilson; sister Joni Ott (Tom); her sweetest dog, Rosie; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family members, former students, and dear friends whose lives were made better by knowing her.
