Billy G. Erwin

Billy Gene Erwin, age 77, of Lee’s Summit, passed away August 24, 2023, at home surrounded by his family.

Billy was born October 13, 1945, in Kansas City Missouri to Ernest and Ruth Erwin.  He was the younger of two children.  He attended grade school at Seven Oaks in K.C. and then moved to Raytown and attended Southwood Elementary, Raytown Jr. High and graduated from Raytown High School in 1963.  In June of 1964, he married the love of his life, Linda Louise Mathis.  They were married for 50 years before her death in 2014.  Soon after marriage, he went to work for Armco Steel and stayed until he enlisted in the military in 1966.  After basic training he was stationed in Germany with Linda at his side.  It was there on May 19, 1967, that their first daughter Belinda was born.  Two years later in 1969, he was honorably discharged from the military.  After arriving back in the states, he resumed his employment with Armco while awaiting the arrival of their second daughter Lisa, who arrived on August 26, 1969.

In 1970 he and Linda bought their first house on 100th Street in Kansas City.  They lived there for seven years before moving to Billly’s childhood home in Raytown.  He continued to work and excel at Armco.  He worked his way to supervisor after completing the Management Training Program in 1980.  He also received an associate degree from Longview Community College in 1981.  Billy was an avid fisherman and enjoyed entering many Pro Bass Tournaments over the years. He loved gardening and enjoyed watching and feeding birds.    He also loved to travel and visited many places like St. Johns Bay, Panama Canal, and Cancun as well as several places here in the states.  He retired in the early 1990’s and enjoyed life in Lee’s Summit Missouri.  He was a member of Abundant Life in Lee’s Summit and spent time serving in the Food Pantry Ministry and attending Bible study.  He gave his life to Christ and was baptized in 2022.

Billy was preceded in death by his wife, Linda, and both his parents.  He leaves his daughters, Belinda Erwin of Raytown, and Lisa Hinkle (Richard) of Lee’s Summit; a sister, Patricia Erwin of Kansas City; his former wife, Pat Bronfman of Olathe KS and her children, Rachael Larson (Joe) of Wichita KS, and Liz Greer (Chris) of Olathe KS; four granddaughters: Jamie Rosterman (Lee) of Westwood, KS, Lacey Moores (Shawn), Maya Hinkle and Gigi Hinkle, all of Lee’s Summit.  He also leaves behind seven great grandchildren and numerous friends and neighbors.
