Carlene Burkhead

Carlene Maude Burkhead ( Wiltshire), 80, of Grandview, MO., passed away December 17, 2014, at the home of her eldest son, Cliff, surrounded by her loving family. Carlene was born May 17, 1934, in Kansas City, MO. Carlene was a graduate of East High School in Kansas City, MO, in 1954.
Carlene was proceeded in death by her parents, Fred & Hazel Wiltshire.
Carlene was married to the late Clifton R. Burkhead Sr. for 53 years. Carlene is survived by her two sons, Cliff Burkhead (Robin) of Peculiar, Mo,. and Curtis Burkhead ( Vanessa) of Celina, TX and by three granddaughters, Lauren (Jon) Carver of Belton, MO and Natalie Burkhead of Overland Park, KS and Haley McCormick of Wichita, KS. Carlene is also survived by her sibling Betty Moad of Phoenix, AZ.
Carlene taught Physical Education in the Grandview School District prior to receiving her Doctorate in Education from Kansas University.
In later years she became certified as a Parish Ministry Associate (PMA). She served at Ruskin Heights Lutheran as the Director of Education, Pastoral Care and Liturgical Planning. She also served as an interim Ministry Support Leader at Prince of Peace Lutheran in Grandview, preaching and presiding twice a month as well meeting with the council and other committees of the congregation.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Metropolitan Lutheran Ministries, 3031 Holmes Street, Kansas City, MO 64109.
