IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Carol Mae
Freeman-Akey
May 7, 1936 – January 26, 2026
Carol Mae Freeman-Akey was born May 7, 1936, to Boyd and Myrtle Willson in Washington, Missouri. She graduated from Chamois High School in 1954. After high school she moved to Washington, Missouri to work. There she met and fell in love with a handsome soldier, Jim Freeman. They were married in March of 1956 at the home of her parents. Shortly after their wedding they moved to Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Carol and Jim had three children: Sherry, Robert, and Penny. Shortly after Sherry was born, they moved to O'Fallon, Missouri then on to Union, Missouri where she enjoyed being a mother and homemaker. The family relocated to Lee's Summit, Missouri in 1971. Carol was very active with the United Methodist Church in Lee's Summit and worked for the R7 School District in the cafeteria and later at Jack Frost Donuts and Valle Vista Drug Store. In 1988, after a prolonged illness, her beloved husband Jim passed away.
In July of 1991 Carol married fellow widower, Allen Akey and moved to Cameron, Missouri where she lived until Allen's passing in 1993. Carol moved back to Lee's Summit and went to work in the fabric department at Wal-Mart. Carol retired from Wal-Mart after more than ten years of service. Carol became a member of the Longview Chapel Christian Church. She loved that it was small and reminded her of the churches that she grew up in.
Over the last 6 years Carol lived at Wilshire at Lakewood due to the dementia that slowly took her away from all she loved. She may have forgotten some things, but she always wanted to share with others and said thank you to her care givers.
She leaves behind her daughter Sherry Vemmer (Ralph), son Robert Freeman, daughter Penny Freeman, grandson Tony Cattau (Anna) and two great grandchildren - Hallie and Wade Cattau, her brother Roger Willson (Nancy) and several nieces and nephews.
