Carolyn was born on December 22, 1940, in Kansas City, KS to Robert and Josephine (Summers) Barrett.  Her father died when Carolyn was very young and she was raised by her mother and stepfather, Albert Kraas, whom she loved dearly.  Carolyn attended Grandview High School. Carolyn had many talents and interests:  she played the piano, enjoyed sewing, making ceramics and porcelain dolls, reading, and studying birds, but painting was her favorite hobby; she had many pieces on display in several art shows.  She also loved her Bible Study and Art Guild groups at Church of the Resurrection, as well as her painting class and lunch days with her high school girlfriends.

In addition to her parents, Carolyn was preceded in death by a son, Kyle Carlton; brothers, Robert and Charles Barrett; a sister, Joann Hinman; nephews: Michael, Kenneth, Larry, Craig, Curtis; nieces: Cindy Hinman and her daughter Lindsay, Roberta, and Stephanie.  She is survived by her husband, Kirby, of 62 years; daughter, Lissa Melber (husband Lance); son, Brent Carlton; grandchildren:  Kyla, Monica, and Reece; honorary grandkids, Christina and Becky, who she loved deeply, along with nieces and nephews: Cathy, Cheryl, Chris , Gary , Bob , Karen , Rebecca, Charlie, Gregg, Jim, Susan, Cindy and Craig.
