IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Charles "Chuck"
Metteer
September 24, 1952 – March 31, 2026
Memorial Service
Foundation Church
Starts at 2:00 pm (Central time)
Charles “Chuck” Arthur Metteer, 73, went to be with his Lord on March 31, 2026 in his home in Kansas City, Missouri. He was a cherished husband, uncle, friend, and mentor, and his presence will be greatly missed. Chuck was born on September 24, 1952 at 1:29 PM in Riverside, California to Charles Richard Metteer and Gretchen
Mae Louise. He married Karen Kent on December 11, 1988 in Huntington Beach California, and they lived a full and happy life together until her death in 2025.
From a very early age, Chuck developed a love for the Lord through his mother’s instruction, and it gave him a deep awareness of his need for Jesus. This knowledge stayed with him regardless of the successes or trials he faced. To Chuck, the Lord’s heart toward him was clear: even in the lowest, most desperate moments, the Lord retained an overarching grip on his life, saying, “I am still with you.” He lived the rest of his life throwing himself at the feet of Jesus.
For over fifteen years, he pastored in the Calvary Chapel and Vineyard movements. After pastoring in Southern California, he planted a church under Calvary Chapel in La Canada in 1982, faithfully pastoring there for three years until the Lord moved him. That church of Calvary Chapel of the Foothills is going strong to this day. He carried this church-planting mantle with him to the end by helping plant Foundation Church in Lees Summit, Missouri in 2025. After receiving his doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary, Chuck taught at Fuller Theological Seminary, Vineyard Leadership Institute, Harvest International School, and the International House of Prayer University.
His life was devoted to being a lifelong learner and follower of Christ, and he instilled that love in each of his students and congregants, inspiring them with his wisdom, comforting them with his vulnerability, and captivating them with his humor and love for Flaming Hot Cheetos.
Though a self-proclaimed “old crank,” Chuck never missed an opportunity to encourage those who came within his sphere, often calling out virtues and talents deep within. His gentle leadership combined with a heart of steel for the truth and practical application of the Scriptures shaped him into an amazing pastor and teacher. His faithfulness in prayer proved him a fixture at 6 AM prayer meetings where he took every chance to lift his friends and their families to the Lord.
Preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Chuck is survived by his sister Christine Lorillard, nieces and nephew Rachel Principato, Sarah Principato, Hannah Principato, Olivia Buckley, and Davis Buckley, and cousin Jeff Schroeder. He also leaves behind brothers and sisters in Christ who say with the Lord, “Well done, good and faithful servant.”
The memorial for Chuck will be Saturday, April 4th at 2pm at Foundation Church (Summit Christian Academy secondary building): 1500 SW Jefferson St, Lee's Summit, MO 64081
Flowers may be sent to Rachel Principato at 14256 Oakland Court, Grandview, MO 64030 by Friday, April 3rd.
For those who would like to honor his memory in lieu of flowers, a contribution can be made to
Foundation Church by visiting the giving page at foundationchurchkc.org and selecting the “Charles Metteer Fund.”
