After a brave battle over the last month with a number of illnesses, Daniel George Bowden, 73, of Raymore, Missouri, passed away on Thursday, May 13, 2021 with his family by his side.
Dan, as he was called by friends and family, was born on September 28, 1947 and grew up in the Kansas City area, graduating high school in 1966 from Westport High School. Dan worked at the Johnson County Water Department, DeLaval, and as a vehicle parts manager for the cities of Lee’s Summit and Independence, Missouri. Dan was funny, sweet, loved being a “Papa-Dan,” and was passionate about several causes. He enjoyed watching football games and old westerns, building and painting classic model cars from kits and sharing them with his family, and listening to the oldies — he did a great Elvis impersonation! Dan was a dog-lover (especially the poms he shared with Mary) and an incredible cook, just like his mother had been, enjoying every minute of sharing this talent with his family.
Dan was preceded in death by his parents, LaVerne and Gene Swenehart, his brother Edward Bowden and sister-in-law Linda Bowden, his sister Delores Bruton and brother-in-law Gary Bruton. Dan is survived by his companion of 32 years, Mary Smith, his daughter Kelly Cavner of Lawrence, Kansas, his daughter Becky Klausner (husband, Chris) of Leawood, Kansas, and three grandchildren: Jake, Ryan and Henry Klausner. He loved all of his family dearly. His family extends their heartfelt gratitude to all who prayed for Dan over the last three weeks; we are so thankful.
Services will be held Tuesday, May 18th, 2021 at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 Southeast Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64149. Visitation will be from 1:00 – 2:00pm immediately followed by funeral and graveside services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association (www.diabetes.org)
