David Morris
Lassiter
October 1, 1955 – April 13, 2026
David Morris Lassiter, age 70, passed away peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side
on April, 13th 2026. Born October 1, 1955, in Columbus, Georgia, David carried his Southern
roots and love of family with him everywhere he went.
After graduating from Columbus High School in 1973, David proudly served in the United States
Coast Guard from 1974 to 1976. He lived by the Coast Guard motto, Semper Paratus —
“Always Ready” — a phrase that reflected how he approached life, work, and the people he
loved. In 1988, he moved to the Kansas City area, where he built a long and respected career
as a construction superintendent, dedicating 35 years to the industry before retiring in 2023.
In January 2000, David married the love of his life, April. Their 26 years together were filled with
laughter, adventure, and a deep devotion to family as they raised their two daughters, Madison
and Ashley, and built a home full of love and memories. He was happiest when surrounded by
the people he loved most.
David’s interests grew and changed with the seasons of his life. In his younger years, he loved
the quiet peace of hunting and fishing. Over time, his happiest moments were found in the
simple pleasures—sipping and collecting bourbon, tending to his yard and garden, strumming
his guitar, and filling the house with classic rock. He treasured concerts, trips to Florida and
days at the beach, cheering on Auburn football and the Kansas City Chiefs. He had a special
talent for finding joy in collecting the most interesting and “weird” treasures, and he loved
sharing those little discoveries with the people around him. He adored his dog Ruby and held a
special place in his heart for returning home to Georgia and Alabama whenever he could.
Above all, David’s greatest joy was his family — especially being “Papi.” He loved every
moment spent with his granddaughter and eagerly awaited the arrival of another granddaughter
this year. His warmth, humor, stories, and steady presence will be missed more than words can
express. We will always feel and hear him in the gentle music of the big old wind chimes in the
backyard, a comforting reminder that he is never far away. He often said, “Y’all come back when
you can stay longer,” and that spirit of welcome and love will live on forever.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Carolyn and Hugh Lassiter of Columbus, Georgia.
He is survived by his wife, April Lassiter; his daughters, Ashley Bowlus (Aaron) of Peculiar,
Missouri, and Madison Rushin (Ryan) of Cleveland, Missouri; his granddaughter, Arabella
Bowlus; his soon-to-be granddaughter, June Rushin; and his brother, John Lassiter (Colleen) of
Rome, Georgia.
A celebration of life will be held at the home of April Lassiter, his wife, on Saturday, April 25th at
1:00PM. Military honors will be held at 1:30PM
