Obituary

Our beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, Deborah Jane Dziurawiec, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away on February 18, 2026, surrounded by family following a courageous yearlong battle with uterine cancer. She was 70 years old.

Debbie lived her life with steadfast faith and constant grace. She trusted God deeply and carried that faith into everything she did, especially in the way she loved others. She had a rare gift for making people feel safe, seen, and cared for—whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or someone she had just met. She always chose to see the best in people, leading with empathy, listening without judgment, and offering compassion. Her kindness was constant, her patience unwavering, and her love freely given.

Debbie graduated from O’Hara High School in 1973, and in 1975, married her first and only love, Julian Dziurawiec, with whom she spent 50 incredible years. Shortly after they were wed, the couple embraced the adventure of military life, spending the next few years living in Spokane, WA and then abroad in Germany while Julian served in the United States Air Force. Those years shaped her in quiet but meaningful ways, deepening her marriage and reinforcing the importance of embracing family wherever life might lead.

After returning to the Kansas City area, Debbie and Julian began raising their family. In 1986, they moved to Lee’s Summit, where they built a home filled with love, faith, laughter, and warmth—a home that remains the heart of their family today.

Debbie found joy in life’s simplest blessings. Above all else, she treasured time spent with the people she loved. She was a wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend in the truest sense of each of those words. She taught us kindness, resilience, how to love deeply, how to laugh, and how to keep going—not through lectures, but by the way she lived her life every single day. She showered her loved ones not with extravagant gifts, but with thoughtful, heartfelt reminders of just how deeply they were rooted in her heart and her mind.

In addition to numerous extended family members, Debbie is survived by her two brothers, Tom and Ed Link; her nephew and niece Jerome and Kenealy Link; her husband, Julian; her two sons, Chris and Jesse, and their wives, Melissa and Shannon; and her beloved Team DZ—her six beautiful grandchildren of whom he was so profoundly proud, Austin, Mason, Anna Grace, Olivia, David, and Penelope. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elmer and Delores Link, and her brother, Bob.

Debbie’s life reflected her faith and her relationship with Jesus Christ. She was a steadfast prayer warrior whose conversations with God were her greatest source of strength. Through her faithful prayers, she poured love, hope, and comfort into the lives of all who knew her. To know her was to love her, and to love her was to be changed by her. While her absence leaves a space in our hearts that cannot be filled, we take comfort in the promise of our faith—knowing her love will continue to guide us, and that we will one day be reunited with her in God’s presence.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, February 28, at Deerbrook Covenant Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., followed by a memorial service and a time of fellowship with light refreshments. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating to the Prayer Room project at Deerbrook Covenant, an effort that Debbie was helping to lead and was near to her heart.
