Debra Gail Callow

November 30, 1960 — April 3, 2023

Kansas City

Debra Gail Callow, 62, of Kansas City, Missouri passed away peacefully on April 3rd, 2023, surrounded by her loving family. Debra was born on November 30, 1960, in Hugo, Colorado to John and Carol Sutton. During her childhood, as her father was in the Navy, she had the opportunity to live in both Hawaii and Japan.

As a young adult, she studied Science at a community college in Colorado and recently completed her bachelor's degree in biology at Avila University in Missouri. She was very smart and loved to take her knowledge to the next level, researching and learning new topics, and learning new skills. She was the definition of a life-long learner.

While preparing for a mission trip at a local church, God led her to the “love of her life” Kim Callow. Deb and Kim were married on October 13, 1990. In the beginning of their marriage, she worked as a respiratory therapist, but becoming a mom to her beloved children Cody and Abbey led her to stay home. Alongside her dedication to raising and educating them, Deb also taught science to local middle school and high school students through a homeschooling co-op and private school. Whether she was helping her high achievers toadvance or struggling students to thrive, she had a gift for creating a love of science in her classroom. In her final teaching position at The Daniel Academy, she also helped with many school events and plays. She created beautiful costumes, helped construct brilliant sets, and, along with Kim, even participated in some performances as part of the cast.

Deb also loved to serve by bringing a meal, being a compassionate medical advisor, and/or using her handy skills to help someone wallpaper or paint. She was a fun, loving, warm-hearted and faithful lady who loved her family, friends, students, and, really, anyone she encountered. She enjoyed sailing, camping with friends, and hiking trails. She also loved to travel. Her favorite trip was when she and Kim did a 500-mile pilgrimage on the Camino in Northern Spain. She was also known for planning special trips that catered to her children’s current passions.

Deb was extraordinarily strong in her faith. She loved to pray and always contended for miracles and breakthroughs for others. She loved to worship God and sing out with all her heart! She had many wonderful God stories to tell that left one with both encouragement and wonder!

She was an amazing wife and mother who loved to cook and care for her family. She lived life to the fullest and cared deeply for others. She was one of a kind and will remain forever in our hearts.

She is preceded in passing by her Father John Sutton. She is survived by her husband of 32-year Kim Callow; mother Carol Cannon; children Abbey & Cody (Erin) Callow; grandchildren Lukas, Ryan, and Ayden Callow; and brothers David (Rebecca) Sutton and their children, and Darrell (Katrina) Sutton and their children. She will also be greatly missed and remembered by her many extended family members and loving friends.
