Donald Ray

July 14, 1927 — December 3, 2021

Donald Dwight Ray (“Don”), 94, passed away peacefully at home the morning of December 3, 2021.

Don was born July 14, 1927, in Long Lane, MO to Dollie and Clint Ray. Growing up, among his favorite things, Don loved spending time with his granddad, Jake Ray. He also loved fishing with his brother Hoyl. The ornery brothers would often rush through their chores so they could grab their poles and squeeze in fishing time while it was still daylight. Don loved the outdoors.

Don served in the U.S. Air Force at the end of WWII. Afterwards, he began his career at Chapman Dairy, where he met and fell in love with the apple of his eye, Lois. He moved on to work for Preston Refrigeration, traveling the country installing industrial refrigeration, and eventually becoming Vice President.

After Don retired, he and Lois went on many adventures. Don would declare “it might be time for another vacation!” And it was not uncommon for the couple to wake up in the morning and back out of the driveway with no specific destination in mind. Once they ended up in New England because Lois had a hankering for a bowl of clam chowder. The two also enjoyed many hunting and fishing trips together.

Don was preceded in death by his loving wife and soul mate of 67 years, Lois, and his brother, Hoyl. He is survived by his three sisters, Tina Cochran, Bonnie (Rich) Fedor, and Ruby Keltner; his two daughters, Donna Green (Randall) and Karla MacRae (Dale); his four grandchildren: Dee Osgood (Lori), Dwight Osgood (Heather), Shannon Boranyan (Jon), and Erin MacRae; his nine great grandchildren: Jacob, Katelyne, Ahmonie, Elizabeth, Rachel, Judah, Levi, Yuri and Griffin; and many friends and family members.

The family wishes to thank Lori, Pat, Clarice, and Kaylin for their kindness and exceptional care for Don during his final months.

A funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 7, with visitation from 10:00 to 11:00 p.m. at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S. Raytown Rd, Kansas City, Mo. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. Longview Funeral Home & Cemetery, (816) 761-6272, www.longviewfuneralhome.com .
