Edward O'Brien

Edward "Ed" O'Brien, 93, of Lee's Summit, Missouri, passed away at home in his sleep on October 5, 2025. He was born on May 4, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas, where he grew up and graduated from Brackenridge High School in 1951. He attended Texas A & M for a year before serving active duty in the United States Air Force from 1952-1956. He served his country as a cryptographer in the USAF Security Service in Tripoli, Libya and Turkey and was honorably discharged in 1960.

He returned to college before starting his career in marketing. His success led to management positions throughout the USA. His last 10 years of employment were very successful with Panasonic Computer Products in Kansas and Missouri. He enjoyed playing golf, hunting, fishing, and traveling. Working in his yard gave him great pride and pleasure.

To mourn his passing, Ed leaves his wife of 62 years, Glenda, along with their 3 children and their own families: Troy (Anita) and her 3 children – Courtney, Cody, and Alexis – whom Troy loves as his own; Tracy (Steven) Wayland and their 3 children – Faith (Josiah) Boshoff; Josiah; and Jordan; Tricia (Michael) Behrend and their 3 children – Chris (Kelsey) and their son Beckhem; Joshua (Shawnae); and Rebekah and her 3 sons – Keigan, Theodore, and Wesley.

Ed was preceded in death by his mother, Frances Keller, and grandson Jeremiah Wayland.

Born during the Great Depression into a challenging family environment, Ed was deeply inspired by the loving and supportive family that Glenda had. This inspired him to replicate that for the life they would build together. Ultimately, he was proud to see his own children embrace those same values as parents and individuals. He cherished spending time with them. They adored him and will miss him greatly. It is with great gratitude that we remember the life of Ed O'Brien with this simple prayer:

"Dear Lord, now take back the soul of Edward O'Brien, whom You have shared with us. We are grateful for the love, kindness, generosity, and wisdom he provided in life. He brought us joy… and we loved him well."

A private family celebration of life with military honors will be held at Longview Funeral Home & Cemetery, 12700 SE Raytown Road, Kansas City, MO 64149
