Edythe Barber Benson

Edythe Ellen Benson, 92, of Lee's Summit, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, October 9th, 2012 at John Knox Village Hospice. Edythe was born April 9th, 1920 in Liberty, MO to Andrew Barber & Nellie (McKarnin) Barber.

She was preceded in death by her husband Harold in 2011, her parents, her siblings, Willard Barber, Wilson Barber, Duane Barber, Thelma Hayes, Martha Hoy, Maxine Ford, and Betty Barber.

Edythe married Harold Benson at St James Catholic Church in Liberty on June 25th, 1938 and they lived in Liberty until 1995 before moving to Lees Summit. She was employed at Gambles Department Store in NKC, and Montgomery Wards Catalog Center in Liberty, but her favorite job was being Wife, Mother, & Grandma to her family. She maintained a lovely home, and her potato salad and desserts were always expected at every family gathering. She loved to cook, sew, crochet and knit and always had a new recipe she was trying or a new project she was working on. She enjoyed bowling and received several trophies in bowling tournaments over the years.

She and Harold enjoyed being " snowbirds"...going to Rio Grande Valley of Texas every winter for 28 yrs. They were charter members of Pack-N-Go Camping Club & members of the National Campers & Hikers Association.

She is survived by her daughters, Sue Rice of Alamo, Tx, Ann ( Gary) Trigg of Lees Summit, Teresa (Roy) Carroll of Pleasant Hill, her grandsons, Michael Rice of Carrollton,TX, Dan Rice of Lucas TX, Brian Trigg of McClouth, KS, Matthew Carroll of Bates City, MO, Great Grandchildren, Nicole Shea, Twins Kevin & Caitlin Rice, Cleo Trigg, Kade Carroll, Kally Carroll and Gray Carroll along with many other close friends and family members that will mourn her loss.

Edythe made annual donations to St Jude's Childrens Hospital, so we thought it appropriate to request, rather than flowers, that friends make memorial donations to the hospital in her name. There will be forms available at the services. Visitation will be from 10:30-11:30, Monday, October 15th 150 Hwy, Lee's Summit, MO 64082, Mass of Christain Burial immediately following at 11:30, with burial at Floral Hills East Cememtery in Lee's Summit.
