Elmo James Yoemans

Elmo James "Jim" Yoemans, a beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend, passed away on May 3rd, 2023 at the age of 96. Elmo was born on September 18th, 1926 in Sedalia, Missouri to Elmo and Bertha (Workman) Yoemans. The middle child of three, he grew up in small towns in Missouri and Illinois while his father was working for the phone company.

Jim served in the U.S. Army from January 1945 until June of 1946 and was primarily stationed in Hawaii. After his service, he moved to Kansas City where he began working for General Motors as an electrician and spent his entire career there.  He married Helen Eversole on March 19, 1950, and they were blessed with 73 years of marriage before her passing just a few weeks ago.

Jim was an avid bowler, even into his later years. He was also a woodworker and enjoyed Western movies and books.  He had been a member of First Baptist Church of Grandview since January of 1984.

Jim is survived by his daughters, Pam Henry of Overland Park, KS and Susan Hurd (husband Gary) of Kansas City, MO; grandson Matt Henry (wife Laura) and great-grandsons Nick and Korbin Henry, all of Basehor, KS; a sister, Norma Jean Grebe of North Kansas City, MO; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to Helen, Elmo was preceded in death by his parents, Elmo and Bertha Yoemans; brother, Jack Yoemans; and son-in-law, Doug Henry.

Services will be held at Longview Funeral Home, located at 12700 SE Raytown Rd in Kansas City. Visitation will be held on May 8th from 10am-11am followed by a funeral service at 11am.  Burial will follow at Longview Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested to Kansas City Hospice.
