Mr. Floyd Ervin

February 16, 1925 — March 24, 2010

Ben Floyd Ervin passed to new life on March 24, 2010, at the age of 85. He was born February 16, 1925, son of Ben F. and May Ervin of Kansas City. Ben graduated from Ruskin High School and Oklahoma State University and served as a staff sergeant in the Army Air Corps during WWII. He was a Professional Engineer and retired from Butler Manufacturing Company in 1986 after a long and dedicated career. He was a life-long area resident, residing many years in Grandview and most recently in Lee’s Summit, MO.

Ben most recently was a member of Lee’s Summit Christian Church and previously of Hickman Mills Christian Church, where he was recognized as Elder Emeritus. He had a lifelong commitment to community service and served on many volunteer positions for the city of Grandview, including the Sewer Commission, Parks and Recreation Commission, and the Citizens Advisory Commission on Transportation. Later he volunteered for the R7 Lee’s Summit Schools. Ben was passionate about the history of south Kansas City and the Hickman Mills area. He was committed to his family and friends, his church, to his country, to education and to his work regarding safety issues and will be missed for his patient, gentle spirit.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 44 years, Ella Mae Ervin and his parents. Ben is survived by his daughters Ellen Ervin of Blue Springs and Kathryn Moore (David) of Lee’s Summit, granddaughters Laura and Amanda, and sister Virginia (Ted) Parker of New York. In addition, he is survived by his devoted and loving friend, Louise Gallion of Kansas City and one he loved as son, George Slenker (Cecilia) of Lee’s Summit and 2 grandsons, Ben and Jon (Katie).

In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to Lee’s Summit Christian Church (800 NE Tudor, Lee’s Summit, MO). Funeral services will be held at DW Newcomer’s Longview Funeral Home 12700 S Raytown Road, Kc. Mo. at 2:00, Saturday, March, 27, 2010, with burial following. Friends may call prior at 1:00.
