Forrest was born in Hillsboro, North Dakota but as a small child the family moved to Chandler, Arizona where his parents owned a motel and trailer park.

As an adult Forrest was heavily involved with the Civil Air Patrol. He earned his pilot’s license, so he was able to look for downed planes. He really loved being in the air.

In 1979, he moved to Grand Island, Nebraska where he met his soulmate Earlene Mills. They were then married in Grand Island on June 28, 1980; and were married just 6 days shy of 42 years. The couple owned a small business called F&E Photography where they photographed many different events. They really enjoyed that time together. He also worked in warehouses and really enjoyed his job at the Cabela’s Call Center. In 2012, the couple moved to Lee's Summit, Missouri where they were excited to be involved in their grandchildren’s lives. Forrest returned to volunteering with the Civil Air Patrol but this time teaching the youth. He really enjoyed teaching aeronautics.
