Frank Greco

Frank passed away on Sept. 9, 2015, after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. He was born on October 29, 1932 in Utica, New York. After attending local schools, he earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering from Clarkson College in Potsdam, New York. After completing his college degree, he served in the US Army for 2 years during the Korean War.

In 1957, he married Rose Marie (Urban). They were married for 58 years. They had three children.

Frank worked for the Air Force in the Rome Air Material Area (ROAMA) as an Electronics Engineer and later worked in the Ground Electronics Engineering Installation Command (GEEIA) at Griffiss AFB in Rome, New York. In 1970, he was transferred to Richards-Gebaur AFB in Kansas City, MO. There GEEIA merged with the Air Force Communications Command (AFCC). AFCC Headquarters moved to Scott AFB, Illinois in 1977 and Frank moved there with the 1842nd Electronics Engineering Group where he worked in the Radio and Radar Engineering Branch.
As a career Electronics Engineer with the Department of the Air Force, Frank was responsible as Lead Engineer for ground electronics engineering and installation of numerous radio, radar, and navigational systems. Many of these are still in use today. He retired to Lee’s Summit, MO after 36 ½ years as a Civilian Employee in the USAF.

During retirement, he enjoyed bowling, golfing, and playing with his grandchildren. He was a member of Our Lady of Presentation Parish. His final years were spent at the Missouri Veterans Home in Warrensburg, MO.

He leaves his wife, Rose Marie; children: Anthony and Sonja Greco, Andrea and Ralph Bondon, Glorianne Greco; six grandchildren: Jeremy, Matthew, Melinda, Alexa, Briana, and RJ; his sister, Anne Greco in Utica, NY; Bill and Marilyn Urban, Mary Greco; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vito and Rose Greco, and siblings: Vito and Pauline.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials to Our Lady of the Presentation Church, Lee’s Summit, MO or Missouri Veterans Home, Warrensburg, MO.

A mass of celebration of Frank’s life will be held at Our Lady of the Presentation Church, 130 NW Murray Rd, Lee’s Summit, MO 64081 on Tuesday, September 15th at 10:00 am. Visitation will be on Monday, September 14th from 5:00 -6:30 pm, with rosary said at 5pm and on Tuesday, Sept. 15th from 9:00 – 9:30 am.
