Frances Irwin Scott
December 30, 1933 – February 27, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Frank Scott of Pleasant Hill, MO on February 27, 2025. Frank passed away peacefully at home with his loving wife of 26 ½ years Dottie by his side. He had celebrated his 91st birthday on December 30, 2024. Frank was born in Coffeyville, KS to Virgil and Lois Scott. He was raised in Coffeyville and attended high school there and was proud to be a letterman on the school’s swim team, which won state championships four straight years. After high school, he received his degree from Kansas State University.
When asked to describe Frank, Dottie quickly responded, “Kind”. He was always ready to greet everyone with a cheerful smile and a “Hello”. He never met a stranger. Frank was a favorite in the neighborhood, especially with young children and the dogs. Although Frank and Dottie did not have a dog of their own, he kept a ‘stash’ of dog treats for the neighborhood dogs, and they knew when they saw Frank outside they were in for a treat. As for the young kids, they visited often and knew to go to Frank for the chocolate stars he kept by his chair; then, it was on to the cookie jar for the Oreos which they called Frank and Dottie cookies before leaving with a box of raisins!
Camping was a huge part of Frank’s life from the time his children were small. Lake Paradise was like a second home, especially in the summer. Later, Branson became a favorite after his retirement from GSA in 1990, spending about four months a year enjoying campground memberships at Fall Creek and Treasure Lake. He also enjoyed his hobby of flying remote control airplanes. Frank totally enjoyed being a dedicated fan of the KC Royals, KC Chiefs, and his Alma Mater K-State Wildcats until the last few days of his life.
Frank was a wonderful provider for his family. He was always there to show love and guidance. He will be missed.
His first marriage lasted 44 years to Carolyn Sue Scott who passed away in 1997. He was also preceded in death by his parents and sister, Patty Maples. Frank is Survived by his wife, Dottie Pickren Scott of the home, Sons Dr. Jeff Scott (Eva), Doug Scott (Jami), Daughter Kristi McAlister (Jerry), Step-son Rick Pickren (Honey), and may grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also leaves one brother, Bill Scott.
Frank was a member of the United Methodist Church of Pleasant Hill and served as a communion minister for several years.
Frank’s memory will be honored with a graveside service on Friday, March 28, 2025 at Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery at 2:00 pm. All are welcome to attend, feel free to dress casually.
