Harold Joseph "Fitz" Fitzsimmons peacefully departed this earth on Sunday, March 11th in the arms of his adoring wife and surrounded by his large and loving family.

Harold was born in Kansas City Missouri to parents Harold and Sophie Josephine (Strack) Fitzsimmons November 11, 1928. He attended Saint Vincent's Catholic Elementary and Bishop Lillis High Schools. Shortly after High School Graduation he was drafted into the military during Korean wartime and served for 2 years with the US Army. He was recently featured in the Kansas City Star in a tribute to Veterans.

Following his military service, Harold enjoyed a long career with McGraw Hill Publishing Company, where he spent his entire career as a journalist. For more than 45 years he was known as "Fitz," an award-winning reporter in the Dodge Construction News division.
Harold married the love of his life and 'girl next door' Arlene Leona Leonard on January 20, 1951 and soon after began creating a large family with eight children raised in the Catholic Irish tradition.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his devoted wife of 61 years, Arlene Fitzsimmons and two Brothers, Robert V. Fitzsimmons of Chicago, Illinois, William (Jeannette) Fitzsimmons of Kansas City and one sister, Mary Ann Muehlebach of Fairway, Kan. He leaves behind eight children: Michael Fitzsimmons, Patricia VanFleet, Dennis Fitzsimmons, Kathy Boos, Teresa Cook, Timothy Fitzsimmons, Joan (Travis) Siebert, James (Laura) Fitzsimmons, 32 Grandchildren and 15 Great-Grandchildren.

Harold was known for his prolific poetry and quirky wit and witticisms especially during times of crisis as evidenced during his eight-year struggle with Parkinson's Disease.

Visitation will be held at D.W. Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home, 12700 Raytown Road, Kansas City, Missouri Thursday, March 15th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Funeral Service will be held Friday, March 16 at 10 am at Christ the King Church at 85th & Wornall in Kansas City Missouri. (Arr. Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home 816-761-6272)
