Mr. Harold "Sam" Myers

Harold Raymond "Sam" Myers was born April 3rd 1931 in Belvidere, Illinois and has gone home to be with the Lord on May 8, 2013 at 11:07 am.
He is the son of Floyd and Ella Myers and was the 7th of 8 children.

He is survived by his wife of 59 years Lillie Mae Miller and their three children: Sam, Kenny, and Judy. He is survived by 11 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren.

His Air Force career spanned 21 years of active duty for 1951 to 1972. As a Flight Engineer he visited many countries and retired with the rank of Master Sargent.

Highlights of Sam Myers military career include preventing a row of B-36 aircraft from burning when one of the aircraft caught fire on the runway. He also completed a flight over Turkey after losing an engine by climbing out into the wing to make repairs returning his crew safely to base.

As a civilian, Sam Myers worked for the Federal Reserve Bank and Yellow Freight as a computer programmer before retiring in 1992 to enjoy life on the farm in Cass County.

Sam loved to hunt, fish, boat, and camp. He was happiest working on the farm and playing the guitar.

The past year he celebrated his 59th wedding anniversary, went fishing at Bennett Springs, watched a Chiefs game at Arrowhead Stadium and attended the inauguration of his oldest grandson into the Missouri Senate. His legacy is that of a loving husband, father and grandpa. He is loved and will be missed.

Visitation will be from 6-8 p.m. on Friday May 10th at D.W. Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery. The Funeral service will be at 10:00 on Saturday May 11th at the Chapel followed by cremation. (Arr. Newcomer's Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S. Raytown Rd., Kansas City, MO 816-761-6272)
