Mrs. Irene (Johns) McClymond

September 9, 1926 — May 27, 2010

Thelma Irene (Johns) McClymond of Kansas City, Missouri, died on Thursday, May 27, 2010, of pulmonary disease.

Thelma was born at Northboro, Missouri, on September 9, 1926. Her parents were James George Johns and Ruth Edith (Boyd) Johns. She began her schooling in Seymour, Missouri, and grew up there. Thelma came to Kansas City when she was 18 and began working in the garment industry. Here she met Wendell Wayne McClymond and they married on December 12, 1945, shortly before he was sent by the United States Army Air Force to occupied Germany for a year. When their three children were all in school Thelma returned to working in Kansas City’s garment industry until she retired. Thelma could easily create anything from baby clothes to suits and coats on a sewing machine and she was also a very talented cook—the more people at the table the better. She had a wonderful sense of humor and was loved by family and friends. She cared more than anything about her husband, children and four granddaughters.

She is preceded in death by both parents and her three brothers. She is survived by her husband, daughters Dian McClymond and Phyllis Williams, son Robert McClymond, four granddaughters, two sisters and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday, June 1, at 1:00 p.m., with visitation starting at 11:30, at D.W. Newcomer’s Sons Longview Funeral Home at 12700 South Raytown Road in Kansas City, Missouri. Burial in Longview Memorial Gardens. (Arr: D.W.Newcomer’s Longview Funeral Home)
