Jack Leroy Vaught Jr.

December 21, 1943 — August 26, 2025

Belton

Jack Leroy Vaught Jr., 81, of Belton, Missouri, passed away peacefully at home on August 26, 2025, surrounded by his children. He was born December 21, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Jack and Martha Vaught.

Jack grew up in Kansas City and attended Ruskin High School. In 1961, he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Neihoff, and together they built a beautiful life and raised their five children. Jack and Phyllis built their dream home on a two-acre lot in Belton, where they welcomed many joyful memories until her passing in 1986.

A hardworking and determined man, Jack founded Jack Vaught Roofing, which he successfully operated for nearly 40 years. He built a reputation for being the best at applying #1 shingles and took great pride in his craft. During his years in business, Jack was also fortunate to work alongside his three sons.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Phyllis; his brothers, Jim Vaught and Larry Vaught; and his sisters, Juanita Norris and Diane Dobbins. He is survived by his children, Scott (Rhonda) Vaught, Linda Vaught, Eric (Jennie) Vaught, Jennifer (Ray) Reimann, Jack Vaught III, and Brooke Garrison; 19 grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; his sister Marty (Steve) Krekovich; his brother Charlie (Lori) Vaught; his sister-in-law Lucy Vaught; and many nieces, nephews, and friends.

An avid outdoorsman, Jack especially loved duck and turkey hunting, fishing at the Lake of the Ozarks, and working in his garden. To his many friends, he was affectionately known as “J-Bird”, a man who loved to laugh, tell stories, quote movies, and even show off his hidden talent for singing. Above all, Jack valued his family and the time spent with them.

Jack attended Blue River Bible Church, and his family would like to thank Pastor Charlie Paine for the many visits and prayers he shared with Jack over the years.

Jack’s life was marked by hard work, strength, and devotion to those he loved. He will be remembered as a man of faith who built a legacy of family, friendship, and determination.

“For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.” — Ephesians 2:8 (KJV)“Well done, good and faithful servant… enter thou into the joy of thy Lord.” — Matthew 25:23 (KJV)

In addition to flowers memorial contributions are suggested to Ducks Unlimited or Blue River Bible Church in Jack's memory.
