Janet Ford

Janet Isabelle Ford, 75, of Lee's Summit, MO, passed away on November 9, 2018 at KC Hospice House.

Janet I. Rodgers was born August 21, 1943 in Orleans, NE to Alvin Rodgers and Rhoda Sealock Rodgers.

When it was time to attend 1st grade Janet moved to Beaver City, NE to live with an Aunt while attending school. In High School, she was in Band, Glee, Sextet, a majorette with the marching band and in the summers lived at the swimming pool.

While in 1st grade she met a boy named Jerry Ford. After graduation, she worked at the County Courthouse and married Jerry Ford on September 8, 1962. They moved to Denver, CO and later to Grandview, MO. They were married 56 years.

From an early age, she suffered from an anxiety disorder. After many years of Doctors and medications she conquered her fears and started college, graduating from Longview with an Associate of Science in human services degree in 1990 and a Bachelor of Science Social Work degree from Avila College in 1993.   After graduation, she went to work for the State of Missouri Probation and Parole in Jackson and Cass Counties. She truly enjoyed her clients and treated them with compassion and caring. She retired after 12 year of service to pursue love for her grandchildren, collecting Chickens, glass ware and scrap booking. She also enjoyed her church family and chatting with friends on the computer.

Janet was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother (stillborn). She is survived by her spouse, Jerry Ford; children: Lisa Akagi of Lawrence, KS and Karen Rose of Milan, MI; son-in-laws: Greg Akagi, and Martin Rose; grandchildren: Sarah Akagi and Lillian Rose; plus many cousins.

Funeral services will be held at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149 on Friday, November 16, 2018. Service will begin at 11 am, with a visitation beginning one hour prior at 10 am. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery.
