Jane M. Dickinson, 80, of Lee’s Summit, Missouri, passed away peacefully on the morning of October 8, 2025, surrounded by love, with her husband and daughter by her side. Heaven gained a beautiful soul that day. Those who knew Janie will remember her soft voice, kind heart, and compassion for others. She loved deeply, gave freely, and lived with a quiet strength that reflected Jesus in everything she did. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend.
Born on May 31, 1945, in Franklin, Indiana, to Wyatt and Helen (Schureck) Cargal, Janie grew up in Huntington, West Virginia, alongside her beloved sister Carole Cargal Reeves. A proud graduate of Huntington East High School, Class of 1963, Janie was a talented Majorette who lit up every game with her baton and smile, a member of All-State Chorus, and where her sister Carole was her English teacher. She went on to attend Marshall University, earning a degree in Music, where her love for songs became a lifelong joy she shared with others by playing the piano, pipe organ, directing choirs, and singing.
Janie’s gentle nature and dedication to helping others throughout her life guided her work and her relationships. She dedicated herself to helping others through her work with the American Heart Association, where her compassion and commitment to health and wellness touched many lives. Later, embracing her love of travel and people, she became a flight attendant for American Airlines, serving from 1995 to 2005. Her warm smile, kindness, and calm spirit made her a bright presence wherever she went.
Over the years, Janie’s life took her across the country—from Huntington, WV, to Dayton, OH, Louisville, KY, and later to California, MO. Eventually, she returned to the East Coast, where she met and married John Dickinson on March 15, 1997, in Sterling, Virginia, blending their families with love and grace.
Janie and John made a home in Sterling Virginia, and then in Aldie, Virginia, cherishing life together on their small farm along John Mosby Highway. They later lived in Columbia, MD, before settling in Lee’s Summit, MO, to be near their grandchildren—the center of her world.
Janie is preceded in death by her daughter, Kelly Jane Mylar, who surely welcomed her into Heaven with open arms. She is survived by her devoted husband, John, of Lees Summit, MO, her daughter, Kristin (Luke) of Lees Summit, MO, and their six children—Wyatt, JJ, Logan, Kelly, Hope, and Graham. She is also survived by her sons Jimmy (Mary) of Richmond, VA, and their children Elena and Luke, and by sons Clay Dickinson, and Guy Dickinson both of Fairfax, VA; she is also survived by her sister Carole Reeves of Crown Point, IN; one niece Marion Johnson (Ron) of Crown Point, IN; and nephews Mark Reeves (Connie) of Tipp City, OH, and Jonathan Reeves (Lisa) of Ft. Lauderdale, FL.
Janie’s gentle spirit, steadfast faith, and unconditional love touched all who knew her. She leaves behind a legacy of compassion, grace, and quiet strength. Well done, good and faithful servant. You’ve run your race and finished strong.
