Jean Carolyn Roberts

Jean Carolyn Roberts, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 in Topeka, Kansas. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, wife, friend and community member whose light and love touched everyone who knew her. 

Jean was born on January 8th, 1931 to Lucille and Byron Schultz in Corning, Missouri in the old brick family home. She was baptized on February 22, 1931 and confirmed in the Lutheran church on April 2, 1944. On October 8, 1950 she married Eugene Roberts at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Corning, MO. After graduating from Rockport High School, she attended Northwest Missouri State. For her first job after college, she taught at a one-room school house. She had a successful 27-year career at the Internal Revenue Service and spent much of her retirement traveling the country with her husband and serving many roles at Peace Lutheran church that included: LWML leadership roles, Alpha Circle, Love in Action chairperson, Young at Heart leadership roles, Caring and Leadership membership, and the choir. 

Jean is survived by her four children: Michael Roberts, Deborah Roberts Cantrell, Thomas Roberts, and Charles Roberts. She was a proud grandparent to ten grandchildren: Jennifer Cantrell Walker (Mike Walker, spouse), Danielle Cantrell Miles (Dan Miles, spouse), Jessica Cantrell Vondran (Kevin Vondran, spouse), Paula Pritchett (David Pritchett), Ryan Roberts, Alicia Roberts, Nicole Cantrell Hantel (Ryan Hantel), Josh Cantrell, Curtis Roberts, and Charlene Roberts. In addition, she spoiled 11 great-grandchildren: Christian Vondran, Cole Walker, Grace Cantrell, Jake Walker, Haven (Roberts) Tyler Miles, Addison Vondran, Sophia Miles, Gwenavere Roberts, Logan Cantrell-Walker, and Jordan Hantel. Jean is preceded in death by her parents Lucille and Byron Schultz, brother Curtis Schultz, husband, Eugene Roberts, daughter-in-law Twila Roberts, and granddaughter Jessica Vondran. 

A funeral service will be held at 3:00pm, with a luncheon following on Tuesday, May 27, 2025 at Peace Lutheran Church 8240 Blue Ridge Boulevard, Kansas City, Missouri where Jean was an active, life-long member.
