After many months of fighting cancer, our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather went to be with Jesus on December 2, 2025.
Raad was born on February 10, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri to John and Esther Mooneyhan. When he was 13, his father accepted a position in Paducah, Kentucky, where Raad graduated from high school.
In January of 1961, Raad joined the Marine Corp, attending boot camp in San Diego, California. While in the Marine Corp, he traveled the Far East and spent his last two months with the Corp in Vietnam. On June 26, 1965 he married Kathleen Corbin in Kansas City, Missouri.
After leaving the Corp, Raad joined the Missouri Highway Patrol, serving 28 years as road officer, fixed wing pilot, and gaming officer, retiring in 1994.
In 1982, Raad returned to military service when he joined the Missouri National Guard, flying Hueys, Cobras, and 58 Helicopters; he retired from the National Guard in 2003.
After retiring, Raad spent his time traveling; most notably to Israel with Kathy and her sister and brother-in-law. Cruises to Alaska, the Caribbean, the Panama Canal and Canada were also included in the memories. Time spent at home found him either with the grandkids or with fellow photographers out taking photos of birds, namely eagles.
Raad is survived by his wife, Kathy, of 60 years; two daughters, Tonya (John) Stout and Kim (JR) Balog; five grandchildren: Jacob Stout, Jessica Stout, Madison Balog, Natalia Balog, and Savannah Balog; one great granddaughter, Ashlynn McVaugh; a brother, Charles Mooneyhan; and nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be 9-10 am Tuesday, December 9th, followed by funeral services at 10am, all at Longview Funeral Home. Burial with full military honors will be held at 12pm on Tuesday at Missouri State Veteran’s Cemetery in Higginsville.
