Kenneth Porchia, Sr.

December 28, 1962 — April 5, 2018

Kenneth Wayne Porchia, Sr. known to many as “Kenny”, was born December 28, 1962 to the late JD and Patsy Porchia. He was preceded in death by his parents, JD & Patsy; stepmother, Vernisteen; two brothers Nigel Marcelle Colbert and Lorenzo McCoy.

Kenny accepted Christ at an early age. He attended Southwest High School and in October 1982, he married Tracy Roberts and to this union two children were born, Courtney and Kenneth Jr. He served in the US Military from August 1981 through July 1989 at which time he was honorably discharged. He served in the United States Marine Corps as an Infantry Mortarman and in the United States Army as an Army Specialist.

Kenny loved spending time with his family. He absolutely adored his granddaughters and they shared a special bond. He said he loved telling people they were his granddaughters because they were so beautiful. He was very proud of his family. He and his brother, Ray, also shared a special bond and were best friends. He enjoyed going to the movies, listening to music, and attempting to sing & dance. He was a true foodie and enjoyed eating a good meal when he went out with his daughter and granddaughters. Through all of his trials and tribulations his faith in God was never shaken. He stood firm in his beliefs. He loved the Lord and he stayed well versed in the Bible and enjoyed conversing with anyone about its contents. His laughter and sense of humor will be deeply missed. He was a character.

Kenny was loved by many and he leaves to cherish his memory; daughter, Courtney Michale Brooks (Harold) of Kansas City, MO; son, Kenneth Wayne Porchia, Jr. of Kansas City, MO;  5 granddaughters; Mariah, Heaven, Keena, Harper, & Harleigh; brother, Ronald Ray Porchia (Jamesetta) of Kansas City, MO; 3 sisters, Rhonda Rene Ballance (Robert) of San Antonio, TX; Cheryl Porchia of Kansas City, MO; Damita Jo Colbert, of Detroit, MI, and a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 14th from 11:00 – 12:30 pm, with a funeral service being held at 12:30 pm, all at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery with military honors.
