Linda Doss

January 25, 1943 — March 3, 2020

Linda Doss, 77, of Independence, Missouri passed away at home surrounded by family after a courageous battle with cancer on March 3, 2020. Visitation will be Saturday, March 7, 2020 from 10-11AM with Funeral service to follow, 11AM at Longview Funeral Home.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Cancer Action and St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

Linda was born on January 25, 1943 in Kansas City, Missouri to Raymond and Mammie (Richards) Heslop.  Linda was married for 56 years to her high school sweetheart, Gary Doss. They were blessed with their only child, a daughter, Diana Goold.  When Diana met her forever love, Linda also gained a son in Gary Goold. Linda had three wonderful grandchildren who she felt could do no wrong.

She was employed for 32 years as a Chief Clerk for Union Pacific Railroad.  She retired from the Railroad in 2007.

Linda’s favorite pastime was spending time with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren as they were her world.  There were frequent trips to their lake condo, a magical Disney Cruise, two trips to Disney World, a cruise to the western Caribbean and a trip to Yellowstone.  Her travels with her husband also took her on an Alaskan cruise and an overseas trip to England with her brother and sister-in-law.  Linda’s second love was Elvis, only to Gary, and they enjoyed travels to visit his home at Graceland.  Linda’s other hobbies included riding her bike, taking walks and doing anything with her husband, daughter, son-in-law, and grandchildren.  At their lake condo, she and Gary enjoyed fishing (and fish stories), riding jet skis and tubing with the grandchildren, taking leisure boat rides and swimming in the lake or at the pool with family.  Linda was still water skiing at 60, tubing with her grandchildren at 70, and ziplining with them at 75.   One of Linda’s favorite Christmas traditions was making cookies with the grandchildren, a tradition that often included their friends as well. Linda was happy to claim others as family and always opened her home for friends of her grandchildren.

Linda was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Mammie Heslop, and brothers Raymond Heslop and Gary Heslop.  She is survived by her husband, Gary Doss, daughter and son-in-law Diana and Gary Goold, grandsons Matthew Goold and Austin Goold, granddaughter Alexina Goold, brother and sister-in-law Larry and Beth Heslop, brother Ron Heslop and Sister and brother-in-law Marilyn and Don Rutherford and many beloved nieces and nephews.
