Margaret Dahmer

July 19, 1956 — December 18, 2022

Margaret DeAnn Dahmer, age 66, passed away on December 18, 2022, at the Kansas City Hospice House.  A visitation will be held on January 3, 2023, at Heartland Family Ministries in Belton, Missouri, from 3-5 pm with the service to follow.

DeAnn worked at the Missouri Division of Unemployment in Grandview, Missouri for 23 years, and when her kids became busy with school and sports activities, she joyfully retired to be with them as much as she could, and she worked part time as a secretary at their school, Heartland Academy.  DeAnn could be seen all over the Midwest attending her son’s games and cheering for them and their friends.

For 60 years DeAnn attended church at the First Baptist Church in Belton, Missouri, where she was actively involved with her husband Barry in choir, Sunday School, jazz band, and she served as a cheerleading coach for the school for the school for a few years as well.  For the last five years they attended church at Grace Baptist Church in Lee’s Summit, Missouri.  Barry and DeAnn were lovingly married in 1980, and for 42 years they enjoyed church, camping with their kids in a pop-up camper, going to the lake, and traveling with just each other (and their friends) as their kids grew older.  They especially enjoyed a trip to Germany, where they were hosted by the family of Patrick Preiss, a foreign exchange student they hosted in 2013.  They hosted three foreign exchange students over the years, and it was the highlight of her life. DeAnn was blessed to have a large group of wonderful friends, who still gather several times a year to catch up and visit (Barry calls them the Christmas Sisters, because they never miss a Christmas gathering.)  She enjoyed campfires and s’mores nights with her 8 grandchildren and watching them swim and play in the lake.  DeAnn was the most kind and forgiving woman we ever met, and the best wife, mom, and Mimi we could have ever asked for.

She is survived by her husband of 42 years, Barry, her children Jeremy (Emily), Brad, and Daniel (Jenn), and her grandchildren Peyton, Macey, Noah, Yooli, Yoona, Olivia, Hudson, and Hunter. She is also survived by her brothers Don and Larry (Leanne) Dial.  DeAnn will be truly missed by many extended family and friends who were blessed to know her.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Hunter. DeAnn’s grandson Hunter (Daniel and Jenn) was born with lissencephaly, and she would have loved to know that donations were being made in his name to honor her life. https://www.givesendgo.com/site/search?text=Hunter+dahmer
