HONORING A BEAUTIFUL LIFE

Marion Lee Eloise Brown was born on December 31st, 1922, to Leland and Eva Johnson. She grew up in Kansas City, Missouri, and was a devoted lifelong member of St. Matthew AME Zion Church. Marion graduated from Lincoln High School and pursued further education, demonstrating a commitment to learning that would guide her throughout her life. Following her studies, she began her career at Trinity Lutheran Hospital, where she worked diligently as a housekeeper and earned the admiration and respect of all who knew her.

In the years that followed, Marion met Lawrence Erving Jack Preston Brown, and together they were blessed with three sons: Stephen, Preston, and Victor Brown. Later, as her life continued on its journey, Marion entered a new chapter when she met James Winfrey, and together they welcomed three daughters: Diana Brown, Jana Brown, and Toni Johnson (Brown).

Marion’s life was defined by her faith in God, her tireless work ethic, resilience, and the profound love she held for her family. She met every season of life with strength and grace, remaining steadfast in her devotion to those she cherished. Her kindness, wisdom, and unwavering spirit left a lasting impression on all who knew her. A long-time resident of Kansas City, Missouri, Marion later moved to Kansas City, Kansas, where she continued to cherish the company of family and friends, finding joy in the relationships that enriched her life.

Marion departed this life on Wednesday, November 12th, 2025, surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her home. She was preceded in death by her parents, her sister Eva Mae Dillard (Bert), her son Stephen(Steve) Brown, her granddaughters Ashley Bandy, Christina Becker, and daughter-in-law Charlesetta Brown and a host of other cherished relatives.

She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Victor Brown (JoAnne) and Preston Brown, and her daughters, Diana Brown, Jana Brown, and Toni Johnson (Richard). Marion’s legacy lives on through her many grandchildren: Michael Brown (Terri), Sonya Ferrara, Tricia Kvidt, Marketta Brown, Erik Brown Sr. (Yulissa), Michelle Bandy, Marcia Brown (TJ), Jeffery Brown (Angie), Victor Brown Jr. (Jerika), Jamal Brown (Stephanie), Maurice Brown (Tasha), Takala Johnson, and Tiffany Black (Kevin). She also leaves behind numerous great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Marion, lovingly called “Aunt Motsey” by her sister and family, was also fondly known as “Red” for her signature red lipstick. She found joy in life’s simple pleasures—watching her favorite shows such as Steve Harvey’s Family Feud, The Price Is Right, and Wheel of Fortune. She also had a well-known sweet tooth for chocolate treats and a special fondness for delicious chicken dishes.

Marion’s memory will forever be cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved her. Though she has departed this earthly life, her spirit, her laughter, her playful jokes, and the warmth she brought to every moment will continue to guide, comfort, and uplift those whose lives she touched.
