Opal Geraline Brittain, age 90, of Kansas City, Missouri, passed from this life August 6th, 2026.  She was born February 7th, 1936, in Sturkie, Arkansas to Porter E. and Leslie (Peterson) Watkins.  She lived in Sturkie until age 5 when her family moved to Kansas City, Missouri.  She loved Kansas City and was very well acquainted with the city, its landmarks and history.

On December 20, 1952, Opal married Boyd Odell Brittain, better known as Pete.  Pete was in the Marines, stationed in California.  So, after her graduation from Manuel High School in 1953, 17 year old, Opal followed her husband to California, and they lived there for about a year and a half.  As soon as Pete's enlistment was up, they returned to Kansas City.  Opal got a job with Southwestern Bell.  She continued to work there after the birth of their first child in 1956.  In 1957, Pete and Opal built a home in Hickman Mills.  After the birth of their second child, Opal became a stay at home mom.  Their third child was born in 1959.

Opal was baptized into Christ in 1958 and was a faithful member of the church.  She had a passion for teaching Bible class and taught the one, two and three year olds class at Grandview Church of Christ for over 60 years.  She also worked in Vacation Bible School and Tuesday Bible School.

In 1992, Opal lost her husband of almost 40 years.  She decided to go back to work, took some classes to brush up on her secretarial skills and became a secretary for the law firm of Brown and James in Kansas City.  After working there for nine years, she retired and began a part -time career as a preschool teacher.

Opal loved people, especially children and took every opportunity to share God's love.  She loved her family, her kids, grandkids, and great grandkids.  She prayed for each one every day and was so proud of them and their accomplishments.  Her family was very proud of her, too, realizing what an extraordinary person she was. 

Opal was loved and respected by friends, family and neighbors.  She will be greatly missed by all.
