Opal Marie Spratt, 90, of Raymore, Missouri passed away peacefully on April 10, 2022. Opal was born on February 5, 1932, in Texarkana, Arkansas to the loving home of Jesse and Stella (Cox) Arterbury. She Attended North Heights High School where she was a starting basketball player, Opal graduated in 1950. After Graduation she began working at J. J. Newberry Dime Store. Opal would work at the dime store until she was 20 and then she went to work for Franklin Dress Shop in Atlanta, Texas. Opal would work her way up the ranks till she was the manager of the dress shop.
Opal met Donald L. Spratt and married him in October of 1954, and they moved to Palmyra, Missouri. They had 3 children: Dona, Ronnie, and Kenny. They all moved to Wellington, Missouri where they lived for a short time till the relocated to Kansas City, Missouri.
Once Opal got her family settled in Kansas City, she found her passion in life of driving a school bus for R. W. Harmon. She drove a school Bus for Center High School for 24 years. She touched the lives of so many children while driving the bus, not only for the kids on her daily route, but for all the athletic events that she could. The coaches, along with the players, got to know O-Pal and they all loved her. She worked or the Kansas City School District and created the road observer program to make sure, that all kids were safely transported to school and back home.
Once she retired, Donald and Opal moved to Raymore, Missouri where she helped out in the machine shop that Donald and Kenny had started up. Her many duties included counting parts, delivering parts, and keeping everyone in line. She became an active member of the Cornerstone Baptist Church and developed the “Prayer Warrior” program. She would write prayer letters and make copies for everyone of the prayers needed that week. Her faith in God, Compassion for people in general, was just amazing to witness and be around to share in. Opal and Donald lived in Raymore for 18 years till they moved to Archie in 2006. After Donald’s death Opal moved back to Raymore to be closer to her son Kenny and the rest of her family.
Opal was preceded in death by her loving husband Donald Spratt, parents Jesse and Stella Arterbury, siblings CW, Evelyn, Jean, Jesse Jr., Leon, Sue, and her son Ronnie. She is survived by her two children, 7 grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren, and her one sister.
Services for Opal are in the care of Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery. Her visitation will be Friday April 15, 2022, at 10 AM with Funeral at 11 AM followed by Burial all at Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery 12700 SE Raytown Road, Kansas City, Mo 64149.
