Phyllis Elayne Ledbetter, 86, of Kansas City, MO. passed away on January 2, 2018 at home.
Phyllis was born on March 20, 1931 in St. Joseph, MO. to Melvin (Dutch) and Bernice Dorrell. She was a highly accomplished individual in a number of areas. Phyllis won awards at the Missouri State Fair for her beautiful knitting, and made sweaters for all of the members of her family. Phyllis was a prolific reader and was very knowledgeable about history, geography and the bible. She worked as an accountant for Nichols Industries for more than 20 years and then opened her own accounting and tax practice that she ran from her home for 8 years. Phyllis was active in church all of her life. She loved to teach and served as treasurer and Elder and was honored as Elder Emeritus at Longview Chapel. She collected turtles and at one point had over 300 turtle knick knacks. Phyllis and Jim loved to travel and camped with friends and family often, they also were active with a group called ‘Nomads’ that traveled to underprivileged areas to do maintenance on churches. She continued to camp after Jim’s death in a smaller RV.
Phyllis was preceded in death by her husband, James Ledbetter. She is survived by her children, Kathy and Jim Roller, Nick and Connie Ledbetter, Linda and David Hartman, her grandchildren: Scott and Chris Roller, Andy Roller, Kelli Roller, Luke and Monique Ledbetter, Audrey and Richard Overcast, James and Chelsea Hartman, Erin and Josh Decker, Adam Crowley and Stefanie Cole; her great grandchildren: Molly Roller, Amelia Roller, Nathan Roller, Aiden Cernech, Gillian Overcast, Brenna Overcast, Addison Overcast, Everlee Overcast, Mabel Hartman, Andrew Decker, Oliver Hartman, Lauren Decker and Suzie Crowley-Cole, her brother and sister, Dwayne and Dottie Dorrell, Marlene and Kenny Hanf and sister-in-law Lillie Ledbetter as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at Longview Chapel on January 13th, 2018 at 1:00, with a reception to follow the service in Long Hall. Memorial donations are suggested to Longview Chapel.
