Roy Harmon

Roy Cleveland Harmon of Kansas City, Missouri was born January 30, 1921 at Bradford, Ohio to Roy C. & Goldie (Boyer) Harmon and passed away on November 4, 2017 at the age of 96 years, 9 months, and 5 days. Roy was united in marriage to Theresa Rose Riley of Sedalia, Missouri on February 28, 1946, to this union four children were born.
Roy enlisted in the Army in 1941, later moving into the Air Force, serving his country honorably until retiring in 1964, at the rank of Chief Master Sargent. He went on to work for the U.S. Post Office and retired from there in 1986. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and a very active member of St. Matthews Catholic Church for many years. In his spare time, Roy enjoyed tinkering with electronics and mechanics, reading, gardening, biking, hiking, and camping. He could be the life of the party.
He was preceded in death by Theresa, his wife of 65 years at the time of her death; his brothers: John Ray, Clifford Paul, and Donald James; his sister, Margaret Lucille Simmons; and his great-grandson, Colin Mazzola.
He is survived by his four children: John and Carla (Hale) Harmon of Kansas City, Missouri; Loyce & Richard Johnston of Prescott, Arizona; Suzanne & Dennis Dreyer of Cuba, Missouri; Thomas & Donna (Bright) Harmon of Thornton, Colorado; 10 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 1 sister, Francis Patricia Harmon of Ohio; and many other relatives and friends.
A funeral service will be held on Thursday, November 9th at 11:00 am at St. Matthews Apostle Catholic Church, 8001 Longview Rd, Kansas City, MO 64134, with a visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery, Kansas City, MO with full military honors. Memorial donations are suggested to The World War II Foundation, 333 White Horn Drive, Suite One, Kingston, RI 02881.
