Shirley Dew

November 20, 1938 — December 12, 2017

Shirley I. Dew, 79, of Leawood, KS, formerly of Lee’s Summit, MO, passed away peacefully on December 12, 2017.

Shirley was born November 20, 1938 in McDonough County, Illinois as the only child of L. Monroe Rigg and G. Irene Parkins. She graduated from Western Illinois University, where she met her husband, Warren. They were married on April 23, 1961. Shirley was a member of Tri Sigma Sorority and a cheerleader during her time at University and later joined Beta Sigma Phi, an international social sorority, where she was a 50 year member. Beta Sigma Phi provided the foundation for her tightly knit group, the “Six Pack”. Shirley worked as a real estate agent, enjoyed substitute teaching and was popularly known as the “pizza lady” during her time as a local fundraiser. Throughout her life Shirley was an avid bowler and loved time spent on the lake. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother and enjoyed time spent with family and friends. Most will remember her for her loving, generous spirit and bright, contagious smile. She will be greatly missed.

Shirley was preceded in death by her parents. She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Warren Dew; her children: Darin (Kim) Dew and Debra (Paul) Rettenmaier; her grandchildren: Ava and Henry Dew and Beck and Chloe Rettenmaier; and many extended family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 S Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO on Saturday, December 16th at 2:00 pm, with a visitation one hour prior to service. Interment will follow in Longview Cemetery. Memorial donations are suggested to Alzheimer’s Association.
