Sue G. Bowlen, a beloved matriarch, passed away peacefully on January 9, 2026, in Belton, Missouri, at the age of 87. Born on November 9, 1938, in Marceline, Missouri, Sue's warmth and kindness were evident to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
A dedicated professional, Sue retired from Marion Laboratories where she served diligently as an Administrative Assistant. Her commitment to service continued as she also held the position of secretary at Grandview High School for several years, contributing significantly to the education community.
Sue's pride and joy were her grandchildren, affectionately known as “Gramma Sue” to them. She was renowned for her delightful zucchini bread and homemade noodles, cherished treats that brought comfort and joy to family gatherings. Her laughter and vibrant spirit filled any room, always accompanied by her trademark smile. Even in her later years, Sue maintained her wonderful sense of humor, captivating those around her with her lightheartedness.
An avid reader and puzzle enthusiast, Sue found joy in diving into novels and challenging her mind with varied puzzles. Her thirst for knowledge and new experiences was an inspiration to her daughters: Donna Hayden, Dana Bowlen, and Deana Hicks (Steven), who carry on her legacy of love and compassion. She also leaves behind her cherished brothers, Rick Goett and Tom Goett, who have shared in the beautiful journey of life with her.
Sue’s commitment to volunteering at Lee’s Summit Medical Center exemplified her caring nature and profound empathy for others. She touched many lives, providing support and encouragement wherever she could, leaving behind a legacy of kindness that will not soon be forgotten.
Sue was preceded in death by her devoted parents, Victor Eugene Goett and Mary Martha (Baxter) Goett, and her beloved sister, Nelda VanMeter.
Her joyful spirit and meaningful contributions to her family and community will be remembered and celebrated. Friends and family are invited to commemorate Sue's life during a visitation on January 17, 2026, from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a memorial service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Longview Funeral Home, 12700 SE Raytown Rd, Kansas City, MO 64149. A private inurnment will take place at Longview Cemetery on January 19, 2026, at 3:00 PM.
