In Loving Memory of Terry L. Zaiss
September 19, 1942 – July 31, 2025
Beloved husband, devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather — Terry Lee Zaiss died on July 31, 2025, at home, held closely by his family who loved him deeply, after a fierce and courageous battle with cancer.
Born in Kansas City, Missouri, on September 19, 1942, Terry’s early years were spent on the move, attending school after school, crossing state lines with each new chapter. In his early adulthood, Terry answered the call to serve his country as a member of the Army National Guard, a chapter of his life that reflected his deep sense of duty and responsibility.
On January 22, 1970, he married the love of his life, Audrey Zaiss, and made a quiet vow that defined the rest of his years: to give his children roots. And he did just that — raising his family in the same home they’ve cherished for over 50 years.
Terry worked tirelessly as a truck rental manager, dedicating his life to providing for his family. His work ethic was matched only by his loyalty and his unwavering love for those closest to him. He was a man of quiet strength, steadfast values, incredible stubbornness and a heart that never wavered in its devotion to his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He now joins in Heaven his beloved mother Helen, father Raymond, and brother Mike, who welcomed him home with open arms.
Terry is survived by his cherished wife Audrey, his children Scott Nickle (Toni), Renee Thompson, Donna Fox, and Terry Rasgorshek, his sons-in-law Rick Thompson and William Rasgorshek, who stood by his side through thick and thin, his six beautiful grandchildren Jeff, Ryann (Ashley), Chris (Tiffany), Brittni (Ray), Sami, and Nathan, and six precious great-grandchildren Lakyn, Kinsley, Brooklyn, Reece, Liam, and Brynley — each of whom carries a piece of his legacy in their hearts.
Our husband, father, and grandfather was deeply loved and will be profoundly missed. Yet we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace, reunited with the loved ones who preceded him, and we hold onto knowing that we will see him again.
A celebration of Terry’s life will be held in the spirit of an Irish wake on Saturday, August 9th, from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Nottingham Forest South Clubhouse located at 8700 W. 141st St. Overland Park, KS 66221. Family and friends are warmly invited to join us in sharing memories, laughter, tears, and a toast to a life well-lived.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the American Lung Association for cancer research in Terry’s memory. If you would like to send flowers for the celebration, please contact a family member for a personal address.
