Virginia "Jenny" Mae Embree

Virginia “Jenny” Mae Embree, 93, of Shawnee, Kansas, passed away peacefully on September 25, 2023, in the loving care of a hospice. 

Jenny was born on April 10, 1930, to Fred and Mayme Burns in Coffey, Missouri. She married Junior Ashford on September 17, 1947, and she had her only son Richard on June 13, 1949. They later divorced and she married Jeff Embree on June 4, 1970. They were married for 45 years until he passed away in December of 2015. 

Jenny retired from Lockton Insurance and was very active with the VFW Post 8100 in Grandview, Missouri where she served as Secretary for many years. She and Jeff loved spending time at the lake when they were not busy at the VFW. She loved cooking, crafting, and sewing and was quite the collector! She enjoyed orchestrating the family reunions every year and keeping up on the ancestry with her family tree books. Even though Parkinson’s Disease set her back some days, she always had a smile on her face. She loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren!

She is preceded in death by her parents Fred and Mayme Burns, her son Richard Ashford, 3 sisters Betty Wright, Loree Carlton, and Ester Moore, 4 brothers Charles Burns, Darwin Seymour, Robert Burns, and Fred Burns. 

She is survived by one brother Marvin Burns, daughter-in-law Susan Ashford, and grandchildren Brian (Rachel) Ashford, Shawn Wilson, and Gina McKenzie. 7 great-grandchildren and many cousins, nieces, and nephews. 

Services for Jenny will be in the care of Longview Funeral Home and Cemetery Tuesday, October 3, 2023, with Visitation at 10 am followed by funeral at 11 am. Jenny will be laid to rest next to her late husband Jeff at Longview Cemetery.
