Eartha Jones

May 4, 1953 — October 14, 2020

Eartha Leen Jones, 67, of Grandview, Missouri, passed away on October 14, 2020.

Mrs. Jones was born on May 4, 1953 in Cotton Plant, Arkansas, to Clemmen J. and Beatrice (Howard) Worsham, after which the family moved to Kansas City, Missouri when Eartha was a child.  She attended Central High School for her education.  Late in life she met and married the love of her life, Barry R. Jones, Sr., and they enjoyed a happy union of 41 years.

Mrs. Jones was a hard worker, employed at Armco Steel in Kansas City for seven years beginning in 1978, then for Children’s Mercy Hospital for two years while attending House of Heavilin Beauty College, where she acquired her cosmetology license.  After retiring, Eartha became a stay at home wife and mother.  She was good with her hands with multiple things, and continuously read and researched for knowledge and encouraged us to do the same.

Eartha had a strong and amazing relationship with God; in her later years, she was also ordained, but she found such joy in attending church worship services at Fellowship Right Baptist Church.  Eartha was a loving and vibrant soul, she was down to earth, easy to converse with and confide in; to know her was not only to love, but also to adore her!  She had the unique ability to understand, and a majority of the time relate, because she had seen and persevered through quite a bit.

One of Eartha’s biggest things was “family.”  She loved her family, family values, the foundation of family and love were extremely important to her, and she made sure that she instilled the importance of that in all of us.  She loved being surrounded by family and love, holidays, gatherings, reunions, etc.  She was a loving wife, and an even more loving mother (Momma.)  Eartha never missed a school activity, it didn’t matter if it was a football game, track, basketball, graduations, etc., from elementary school to college, she was one of our biggest supporters, the loudest in the crowd.  Eartha’s grandkids mostly referred to her as “Granchie.”  She loved it and them.

Eartha was preceded in death by her parents, Clemmen J. and Beatrice Worsham; brothers, Carl Worsham and Victor C. Jones; son, William S. Nevels, Sr.; and sister, Florence Ward.  She is survived by her loving husband, Barry R. Jones, Sr.; sons, all of Kansas City, Missouri:  Cleven R. Nevels, Jr. (Bynika), Ronnie E. Nevels, Barry R. Jones, Jr., Otis D. Nevels, and Timothy C. Jones; daughters, all of Kansas City, Missouri:  Theresa A. Jones, Jackie M. Johnson, and Emma L. Eke; brothers:  Herman J. Worsham, Rodney C. Jones (Sheila), and Thaddius W. Jones (Sandra); sisters:  Carolyn Worsham, Sherrion L. Sarda, Denise M. R. Davidson (James), Susie Worsham, Janice Hampton, Carrie Vance, Marsha Love, and Georgia Ware; a host of grandchildren, aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives who loved her.
