Frank E. Green, 88, of Leawood, KS passed away Sunday, September 20, 2020

Frank, beloved Dad and Pop, was born November 24, 1931 to Lloyd Green and Gladys (Kennedy) Green in Joplin, MO.  He graduated from Joplin High School in 1949.  He received his BS in Mathematics at Southwest Missouri State University in 1953 and a BS in Civil Engineering from Kansas State University in 1958.

Frank met his future bride, Joan (Wheeler) in Springfield. He was a loving husband and incredibly caring spouse throughout their 66 years of marriage, which ended on February 20, 2020.  Frank is survived by his children: Kevin (Susan) Green and Keely (Lynn) LaNoue; granddaughters: Briana (Aaron) McKiddy and son Caiden and Kiley (Ryan) Sutter and daughters: Kennedy and Avery.  He is predeceased by Joan, his parents, Ralph Green (brother) and Kelly Green (Kevin’s twin brother).

Frank had a fun, caring and outgoing personality.  He made friends on his life journey at every stop.  He was willing to drop whatever he had going on to help, educate, mentor or support others.

While at SMSU, Frank was a Bear yell leader, member of the student commissioners, leader in ROTC and a member of Tau Kappa Epsilon (TEKE) fraternity.  Return trips for homecoming on his motorcycle, were a special joy to reconnect with friends and fraternity brothers.

After college and marriage to Joan, Frank joined the Army.  He and Joan were stationed in France.  They lived for a year in Donnezac, outside of Bordeaux.  Frank enjoyed sharing his France experience slide show with others, especially to at his assisted living facility.

Upon returning from France, Frank headed to Manhattan, KS to get his Engineering degree.  It was there that he and Joan began their family in 1956 with the birth of twins.  With his diploma in hand, he began a 38-year career with the Missouri Department of Transportation. After a short stop in Jefferson City it was on to Springfield where Keely joined the family.  In 1960 Kansas City became home for 53 years. As a design engineer and squad leader, he trained and mentored many designers.  Frank was a member of ASCE.  He served as President and Past President of the Missouri Society of Professional Engineers – Kansas City Chapter.

A lifelong Methodist, Frank was active in 3 congregations as an adult.  He relied on his faith for comfort and strength.

Being a father, grandfather and great grandfather brought him great joy.  He attended all events and activities.  Frank (Pop) loved his granddaughters while supporting them with care, passion and cheers.  He leaves behind legacy of unconditional love.

Frank loved motorcycling.  He had 60 years of cycling on Harley Davidsons.  Starting with the first vehicle he and Joan owned to his last bike, he shared many stories about rides and friendships.  Highlights included: Over 250,000 miles ridden in 42 states, 6 Canadian Providences, riding north of the Arctic Circle for an overnight, doing 1,000 miles in a day and going 114 miles without holding his handlebars.  He achieved the coveted Harley goal of riding over 10,000 miles a year in his each of his last 4 years of riding.  May 2010 was Franks final solo ride.
