Larry Vaught

November 3, 1937 — December 24, 2021

Larry was born November 3rd, 1937, to Martha & Jack Vaught.  He was the first of 7 siblings.  He is preceded by his father Jack, mother Martha, brother Jim, sister Diane, and sister Juanita.  He is survived by his wife Lucy, son Kevin and & wife Mary, son Mike and wife Rhonda, grandson Michael, granddaughter Amy, granddaughter Jamie, great granddaughter Kinley, sister Marty, and brothers Charlie and Jack.  He also leaves behind numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, in-laws, and dear friends.

Larry was born and raised in Kansas City, MO.  He went to Ruskin High School and married August 11, 1956.  After marriage he passed his General Educational Development test and took several college night classes to further his education.

Larry became a father on July 31, 1957, and again on March 15, 1959.  He and Lucy purchased their first home in St. Catherine’s during the summer of 1965.  And, in March of 1967 he ventured into business for himself as Larry L. Vaught Roofing.  The company continues to operate to this date and is currently managed and operated by 2nd and 3rd generation Vaught’s.

Larry retired in 2003.  He was never idle as he participated in numerous hobbies and enthusiastically filled the role of a loving family man until his passing on December 24th, 2021.

Larry was a caring and loving man that fit in well with every walk of life.  He was a businessman, a roofer, a biker, a cook, a home builder, a music fan, a little league coach, a chief’s fan, a royal’s fan, a pool player, a card player, a dancer, a fisherman, a gardener, a partier, and a lot of other things.  But he was mostly a good friend and a loving family man.

Larry has finally crossed the finish line.  He’s taking the checkered flag.  He finished installing the ridge cap on his last roof.  He’s “All In” for his last hand of Texas Hold’em, and he’s caught his limit.  He has a lot to be proud of!

Larry’s not going to say goodbye.  Instead, he’s going to live on forever (and a day) through the great memories he’s left us with during his 84 glorious years.  We celebrate the life of Larry L. Vaught (a.k.a. Salty Dog, Rabbit, El Viejo, coach, Pa).  He is the first-born son, a loving husband, beloved father, brother, grandpa, uncle, cousin, dear friend, good neighbor, and a man’s man that will be sorely missed.

The family graciously thanks you all for your love and support.  And we give special thanks to those who were able to visit Larry during his final days.  You brought him more joy and happiness than you could have imagined.  Larry was at peace when he left us.

The family asks you to consider donations to Kansas City Hospice, in honor of Larry.  We can’t say enough about this facility and the special people who cared for Larry during his final days.

Rest in peace Larry Leroy Vaught.  We love and miss you.
