Roger Hay

September 10, 1930 — May 9, 2022

Roger “Rog” H. Hay, age 91, formerly of Bella Vista, AR and Palatine, IL and currently of Grandview, MO, passed away peacefully on May 9, 2022.

Beloved husband of Patricia J. (Herlache); loving father of Susan (Chris) Ladish, Sandra Hay, Sharon (Brett) Holderbaum and Catherine (Robert) Mills; devoted grandfather of David (Kim) Ladish, Rebecca Ladish, Sarah (Rick) Bidwill, Melyssa Holderbaum, Luke Holderbaum, and Ainsley and Kieran Mills, and great grandfather to Levi and Josiah Ladish, Selah, Ricky and Elias Bidwill, Lumen Holderbaum and Jackson Holderbaum. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Meta Hay.

As a young man, Rog was a part of the Walther League and attended Wright Junior College. He also was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the army from 1951 – 1952.  He was united in marriage to the love of his life, Patricia Herlache, on June 2, 1956. Rog worked at Pure Oil, later Union Oil until 1985 and finished his career at Walgreens Co. corporate headquarters before retiring in 1991. Rog and Pat enjoyed traveling and learning together, attending a number of Elder Hostels throughout their retirement. Rog loved classic movies, music, all the arts, nature and the Chicago Cubs and shared that love with his family, taking many trips to museums, concerts, state and national parks and Wrigley Field throughout the years.  He was an avid reader, history books mostly and a true historian at heart.  He traveled the world by the books he read, gaining countless knowledge and facts of history and the ages.  He had a great sense of humor, loved to laugh and always said “you need to keep a little levity in life even if times are hard.”

Rog shared his time and treasures supporting many different ministries and missionaries throughout the years to help share the love of Jesus Christ, his first love, with others; Wycliffe Bible Translators, Jews for Jesus, Joni & Friends, Creation Ministries International and heading up the Adult Education Committee for Immanuel Lutheran Church in Palatine, IL just to name a few.  Rog also served his community after retirement being a member of several community boards in Bella Vista, AR.
